Hymn to the Dancing God
March 20th, 2007
(from the Biblical Psalm 104, with creative license)
Praise the Dancing God, O my soul.
Celebrate the rhythm of his feet dancing the universe to life.
He knows the Moon and he loves the Moon
Her light is his great joy
And he wraps himself in her light like a garment
He stretches out over her starlit, heavenly body
And lays the silver beams of their lovemaking
On the surface of the waters.
He makes the clouds his chariot
And rides on the wings of the wind.
He makes the winds his messengers,
Salamanders of fire his faithful servants.
He set the earth on its foundations;
It moves to the rock of his hips
And the tapping of his feet
And the wild throws of his arms.
The north knows his dancing
The eastern air gives him breath
The southern fires give him passion
The western waters give him sweat
And his dance is poured out like love upon the Earth.
All of creation desires to cling to you
But your dancing orchestrates their movement, too
The waters fled at the sound of your steps.
They flowed over the mountains
They went down into the valleys
To the place you assigned for them.
You make springs pour water into the ravines
It flows between the mountains
They give water to all the beasts of the field.
The wild donkeys quench their thirst
The birds of the air nest by the waters
They sing among the branches.
You water the mountains from the sweet sweat of your brow
The earth is satisfied by the fruit of your dancing.
The moon marks off the seasons,
And the sun known when to go down
Your dance fills them with purpose
And their light is poured out like love upon the Earth.
You bring darkness, it becomes night.
You bring sunlight, and it becomes day.
And the Wheel turns
And the seasons change
And your dance touches our hearts
And fills us with purpose
And our light is poured out like love upon the Earth.
I will sing to the Dancing God all my life
I will sing your praises as long as I live.
May the words of my mouth
the meditations of my heart
and my action upon this earth
be pleasing to you
As I rejoice and celebrate in you.
Amen
and Amen
