The Wii remote only uses the IR fearture for pointing exercises. Most games use the built in accelermeters (there are more than one as it can detect multiple directions). I have a friend who spent some time figuring out the physics behind the controler and how the bowling game interprets the hand movements. I can almost always bowl a 200+ game because I learned how to flick my wrist correctly. Nobody has it correct. The Wii remote only uses the IR fearture for pointing exercises.

This is why when I have kids, I'm just going to teach them to play chess and poker and when they start beating me at that I'll just know it's because I taught them well.
