Hi Amber,
You are a truly gifted writer.
Remember this? "I'll never be happy again, I'll never be able to smile, Or laugh at a joke, like simpler folk. I guess that's just my style. I'll never be happy AGAIN!" -Cali

I just discovered your blog and love your humor. I too have a 5 year old son who can beat me at anything electronic! It's amazing how "gracious winning" is not exactly understood yet! :)

Nobody has it correct. The Wii remote only uses the IR fearture for pointing exercises.

Most games use the built in accelermeters (there are more than one as it can detect multiple directions).

I have a friend who spent some time figuring out the physics behind the controler and how the bowling game interprets the hand movements. I can almost always bowl a 200+ game because I learned how to flick my wrist correctly.

ACTUALLY, that's not quite accurate. Bowling does not require a line of sight to the IR sensor bar. It works entirely on the accelerometer in the Wiimote ( I know, I've bowled from my backporch with no view of the tv even ). The IR sensor bar only works for things that require pointing like most of WiiPlay or the menu system. So your distance to or from the TV makes no difference at all. However, the shorter distance of his arms would allow for smaller derivations in the angle and tilt of his swing perhaps?

I'm not entirely sure what's funnier, the whole thing with the wii-science or that it burned you so bad you had to explain it and post it up here. This is why when I have kids, I'm just going to teach them to play chess and poker and when they start beating me at that I'll just know it's because I taught them well.

Oh, and you should break out the old SNES and see if he can whip you at mario kart. That's the true test of a gamer's caliber. :P

I laughed so hard I almost peed! Thank you for sharing that. It is not often you see such an honest account of a parent's feelings and interaction with their child.
